Cincinnati Reds installs high-tech security system
Cincinnati OH Aug 10 2020
A new high-tech security system is now installed at the Great American Ballpark.
The new software has the power to detect a weapon long before the person carrying it ever realizes they’ve been scanned.
Ginter Electric has deployed the Patriot One Technologies PATSCAN for the Reds.
It is a step far beyond typical metal detector technology, which officials said they believe will improve safety without big lines.
“This is passive, which means you can walk through these detectors without having to take your keys, your wallet, anything out of your purse,” said TJ Dooley with Ginter Electric.
Officials said it will enhance safety without making the ballpark feel like a fortress.
“Metal detectors, the wands, all that kind of stuff is just cumbersome when you’re trying to go through an entry point,” Dooley said.
The scanning technology can detect a weapon away from entry points before someone would even expect a security checkpoint. The new technology allows security to put lockdown procedures in place more quickly.
“It will be tuned for the application, all the way down to really small bladed knives, long range rifles, all of that stuff,” Dooley said.
Where the PATSCAN technology has been deployed at Great American is being kept secret, and it’s exactly the kind of technology you don’t have to think about it.
“You’re going to walk through. It’s going to be very inviting. You’re not going to realize you’re walking through it and at the end of the day, it’s doing that in the background,” Dooley said.
This new security technology is ahead of other scanning devices in many ways. It is something that you’ll be experiencing as you head to the ballpark for Reds games starting this season.
