Clarksville TN gives city security officers authority to write criminal citations
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. Dec 21 2020
Security officers employed by the city will receive increased authority, including the ability to issue citations and “trespass” citizens from public property.
The ordinance was unanimously approved by the City Council at a special session on Thursday night.
The first change made by Ordinance 49 will allow security guards employed by the city to issue
civil citations to those in violation of city code while on city-owned property.
Such cases will be heard by the City Court and can result in penalties of up to $50, plus court costs and taxes.
The ordinance also expands the security officer’s ability to enforce alcohol restrictions at city parks and recreation centers.
Under the change, city security guards can trespass and expel those found in violation of alcoholic
beverage restrictions.
Ordinance 49 passed its second reading at Thursday’s meeting, allowing it to officially become part of the city code.
The City Council voted on several matters at the special session, which occurred after the current council’s final regular session.
