Cleveland Browns security guard robbed at gunpoint near FirstEnergy Stadium
CLEVELAND, Ohio Sept 27 2017- A guard for a private company that provides security for the Cleveland Browns was robbed at gunpoint near the stadium as he tried catch a bus to Indianapolis for Sunday’s game against the Colts.
The robbery happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
Darnell Hurt, an employee at Contemporary Services Corporation, which provides security for the Browns, said he was walking to the stadium to catch a bus that would take him and other employees to Indianapolis where they would provide security for the team.
Hurt left his other security job at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and went downtown to catch the bus. He was walking along West 3rd Street when he noticed a blue SUV slow down.
The 22 year old became suspicious and tossed his cellphone into the grass. The SUV stopped and five men got out, according to Hurt and police reports.
The group surrounded him and one man pointed a gun at him, police reports say. Hurt said the men smelled like liquor and appeared drunk.
The gunman told Hurt: “Where you from? I need everything,” according to police reports.
The gunman stole the Hurt’s backpack that had his work clothes and work identification card and took his wallet and $100 out of his front pocket, police reports say. Hurt picked up his phone and called police.
“I was so mad,” Hurt said. “I needed that money.”
The group jumped back into the SUV and sped north on West 3rd Street, police reports say.
Hurt was not injured during the robbery. No arrests have been made in the case.
“I’m just trying to work and live my life,” Hurt said. “I can’t even enjoy that.”
