Cleveland security officer fatally shoots man who pointed a gun at him
CLEVELAND, Ohio Aug 15 2021 – Cleveland police responded to a shooting at a gas station and found a man dead.
Anthony Starks, 28, of Cleveland died in the shooting, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office.
He was killed by an armed security guard during a dispute police said.
Police were called to the scene at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.
When officers arrived at the Sunoco Gas Station located at East 131st Street and Harvard Avenue, they found Starks inside of the gas station with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.
Officers provided first aid to Starks until paramedics arrived and took him to University Hospitals where he died.
Police discovered that Starks caused a disturbance with another man in the gas station. The security guard intervened, and the man who was threatened by Starks left the gas station, police said.
The security guard asked Starks to leave the store, and he refused. An unidentified man walked in the gas station with a gun on his waistband.
Starks snatched the gun from the man and pointed it at the security guard, who then fired his gun. Starks returned fire at the security guard, but missed, Ciaccia said.
The security guard was released from police custody pending further investigation.
