Clinton County Legislator Simon Conroy arrested for trespassing flees security
PLATTSBURGH NY Sept 30 2019— Clinton County Legislator Simon Conroy was arrested for the second time this month early Saturday morning after an incident at Bombardier Transportation.
According to City Police Chief Levi Ritter, shortly after 4 a.m., police were called to the Bombardier facility at 71 Wall St. in the south end of the city.
Security guards at the plant told police that they encountered an adult male who did not have permission to be on the property.
One of the security guards recognized Conroy, and told police that the legislator was talking as if he was there to attend some sort of meeting at the plant.
When police arrived, Conroy fled into a nearby wooded area, Ritter said.
He was apprehended quickly and arrested when security guards chose to have charges pursued.
Ritter said security at the Bombardier plant has been heightened since a bomb threat caused the facility to be evacuated on Sept. 17.
Conroy was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court on a misdemeanor criminal trespassing charge and released to his father, the chief said.
Conroy (D-Area 4, Town of Plattsburgh) was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after an incident downtown on Sept. 6.
He was taken to University of Vermont Healthcare Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh where he said he was treated for nearly three weeks.
Conroy told the media last Wednesday that he was released from the hospital that day.
That evening, he made a speech on the floor of the legislature during their regular meeting where he said the past 30 days of his life had been unusual.
He then announced that he would be seeking the chairmanship of the legislature.
Conroy is also facing a seventh-degree criminal possession charge, a misdemeanor, for alleged possession of cocaine.
He has yet to be arraigned for the disorderly, resisting and possession charges.
