Columbia SC park ranger attacked and injured
COLUMBIA, S.C. May 18 2017 A Columbia park ranger was assaulted and had to be transported to an area hospital after a man attacked her when he was told that there was no fishing allowed in the park.
Police is requesting tips and information from the public after the female park ranger, who police did not identify, was assaulted Wednesday.
The incident happened around 11:00 a.m. at 4100 block of River Drive all because the man became irate when he was told that he couldn’t fish.
The man then assaulted the ranger according to police.
Police say a witness was nearby and tried to help, but the suspect allegedly threw the man’s glasses into the water before running away from the scene.
The park ranger was taken to a local hospital for her non-life threatening injury.
No one else was physically hurt during the incident.
At this time, a description of the suspect is limited, police say.
