Columbus Indiana woman caught fleeing shoplifting incident also had drugs
Columbus IN May 18 2018 A local woman was arrested on several drug-related charges after she was accused of attempting to flee from Columbus police officers at a local store.
Officers were sent to the 700 block of Whitfield Drive at 12:30 a.m. Monday about a woman who was believed to be shoplifting in the store, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
The woman — later identified as Amanda J. Redford, 31, of 12406 S. Hillview Drive — refused to stop for store security and fled from the store, Harris said. She was caught by police after a short foot pursuit in the parking lot.
Officers later recovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside Redford’s purse, Harris said. She was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine, Harris said.
She was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $70,000 bond, jail officials said.
