Tolland CT March 18 2023 Connecticut State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security raided an adult nightclub in Tolland Thursday after allegations of prostitution.
Police said the Electric Blue Café located on Merrow Road, was raided as part of an investigation into allegations of prostitution and sexual activity taking place on the premises.
Authorities suspect the activity has been taking place at the nightclub for several years up until the present day, according to officials.
The Electric Blue Café has been ordered to be shut down for 30 days, according to Town Manager Brian Foley.
“The Tolland Resident troopers office, along with the other law enforcement investigators, are involved in an ongoing secondary law enforcement investigation where the area is completely safe, and the surrounding businesses are open,” Tolland Town Manager Brian Foley said.
News 8 contacted Homeland Security, which said it is “participating in a joint investigation at a business in Tolland.”
According to the Connecticut Liquor Control Commission, the business was shut down for two days in September 2019 for violations, including “display” conduct, improper mingling, recordkeeping, and permit violations. It was fined $1,625.
Former Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara told News 8 Homeland Security could be involved with the investigation if there were reports of human trafficking.
“A lot of people don’t realize that homeland security deals with human trafficking, and a lot of times when you are dealing with prostitution cases, there is a potential for underage or human trafficking occurring,” MacNamara said.
