Cook County sheriff’s investigator killed in vehicle crash
CHICAGO RIDGE, Ill. April 2 2019 Authorities say an off-duty Cook County sheriff’s investigator has been killed in a traffic crash near his home in the Chicago suburb of Chicago Ridge.
Chicago Ridge police say the two-car crash happened just after midnight Saturday. Police say the juvenile driver of the other vehicle is in custody and has been charged with felony reckless homicide among other counts.
Cook County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari identified the investigator as Electronic Monitoring Investigator James Koch. She says he was with the office for more than 28 years.
Chicago Ridge Police Department Chief Robert Pyznarski says the juvenile’s vehicle struck Koch’s vehicle. He says Koch was trapped in his vehicle and firefighters freed him. Koch was taken to a hospital where he died.
