Coral Reef Senior High School security monitor fired for “inappropriate relationship” with a student
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. May 5 2017- A security monitor at Coral Reef Senior High School has been fired for having an “inappropriate relationship” with a student, Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesman John Schuster said.
Schuster said the employee, Darryl Ward, was under investigation by the school district and his employment has since been terminated.
Schuster said he is also barred from seeking future employment with the school district.
According to a student at the high school, the girl’s father found Ward and the student in Ward’s car.
The student said Ward sped off.
He said the student’s father punched Ward when he saw him again.
Schuster said Ward was also a part-time coach for football and track and field, and had been employed by the school district for four years.
He said no other similar cases involving Ward had been reported.
The school district referred the case to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, but criminal charges will not be pursued because Ward and the student are both adults, Schuster said.
A similar case resulted in a Miami Palmetto Senior High School teacher resigning from his position. School officials said both parties in that case were also adults and no criminal charges will be filed.
