Coral Springs Considers Paying $332,879 for Private Security Guards at City Facilities for Next 12 Months
CORAL SPRINGS, FL August 15 2022 – Since 2017, private security guards have watched over Coral Springs’ Utilities Water Plant, the Westside Complex, and City Hall.
Now, the city is looking to “amend” the agreement with the firm providing the officers — Allied Universal Security Services – and pay $332,879 for the service for the next 12 months, according to a memo.
Amending the agreement – which city commissioners are planning to consider on Wednesday – would cost the city $177,200, the memo said.
The memo didn’t make clear what the city has been paying annually for the service.
According to the memo, the need for private security at city facilities dates back close to nine years ago when officials from the police department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security reviewed operations at the Utilities Water Plant and the Westside Complex and determined security was needed there.
The same went for City Hall.
Under the amended agreement, two armed officers will be stationed at City Hall (costing $2,419 a week), three unarmed officers will be at the water plant (costing $2,700 a week), and one officer will be working for the city’s public works department (costing 1,012 a week), according to the memo.
At each facility, a guard is stationed and “acts as a control point” to screen all visitors during working hours, and as needed for other city events, the memo said.
The guard also notifies city personnel of all deliveries, maintains a visitor log, and helps direct vendors and other visitors.
The city decided to consider amending the agreement with Allied Universal after the company recently submitted a cost adjustment “due to unstable market conditions over the past year,” the memo said.
