Coralville man cut security agent with knife during theft attempt
Coralville IA April 23 2019 Police arrested a Coralville man over the weekend after he allegedly assaulted a loss-prevention officer with a knife while attempting to steal from a Target store.
According the Coralville Police Department, John K. Greb, 18, was attempting to steal items from the Target at Coral Ridge Mall, 1441 Coral Ridge Avenue, when he was confronted by a loss-prevention officer. Police said Greb was armed with a knife, which he used to cut the loss-prevention officer in the hand before fleeing the store.
According to the criminal complaint, Coralville police were called to the mall at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. While en route, police said they received information Greb was last seen heading toward the Best Buy at the east end of the mall and then making his way to the pedestrian tunnel that crosses under Interstate 80.
The complaint state police spotted Greb as he was walking on a trail toward the tunnel. Police said an officer pulled his squad car on to the trail to follow and when Greb noticed the vehicle, he attempted to run. A brief foot chase ensued before Greb was taken into custody, according to the complaint.
Police said Greb “had blood all over his person, and had a fixed blade knife with blood on it on his person as well,” according to the complaint. Two clear plastic bags full of small white pills and a multicolored pipe allegedly used for smoking marijuana were also found in Greb’s possession, police said.
Greb faces charges of first-degree robbery, willful injury — causing bodily injury, interference with official acts and possession of drug paraphernalia.
