Critically injured security officer who had part of his skull and brain removed after violent attack files lawsuit
SAN FRANCISCO CA April 28 2021 — A security guard for 555 California Street in San Francisco, who was injured and had to have part of his skull and brain removed after a confrontation with skateboarders, is suing the building’s owners and operators, Thrasher Magazine, skateboarder Jesse Vieira, and others for damages.
Court records show that the lawsuit was filed claiming:
COMPLAINT FOR DAMAGES
1) Negligence
2) Premises Liability
3) Assault
4) Battery
5) False Imprisonment
6) Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress
7) Loss of Consortium
Dan Jansen, 57, was badly injured on Nov. 25, 2018, when he attempted to prevent skateboarders from doing stunts outside 555 California St., a Financial District skyscraper.
He was in a coma for more than a week and has undergone multiple surgeries, according to the civil suit filed Monday in Superior Court in San Francisco. He will require “lifelong medical care and treatment,” including attendant care, the suit said.
One of the skateboarders, Jesse Vieira, was charged with crimes including assault with a deadly weapon; his trial in 2019 ended in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked.
Vieira, a professional skateboarder, is named as a defendant in the suit by Jansen and his wife. Also named are Thrasher magazine — which has promoted the activities of GX1000, a skateboard crew created and managed by Thrasher’s parent company — and the owners and operators of 555 California, which include the Trump Organization.
