Crossgates Mall security officer arrested for theft
GUILDERLAND NY June 16 2017 — Josuelle Ortiz, an employee of the Crossgates Mall security office, was arrested on May 21 for taking a wallet from the lost-and-found drawer.
Guilderland Police were called to the security office for a report of an “internal theft,” the arrest report says.
A complainant in the security office discovered the wallet missing and checked surveillance footage, according to the arrest report for Ortiz, 46, of 434 McClellan St. in Schenectady.
The footage showed Ortiz opening the drawer at about 6 a.m. and removing a wallet containing a debit card, the report says.
Ortiz was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony. Guilderland Police reached him by phone, the report says, and he turned himself in at the mall substation. He was processed there and was due to appear in Guilderland Town Court on June 8.
The Enterprise was unable to reach Ortiz, Crossgates Mall Security, or the company Allied Universal which supplies security personnel to the mall.
