CT shoplifters get robbery charges for allegedly fighting with security officers
STAMFORD CT April 18 2019 — Two female shoplifting suspects were arrested on robbery charges after they allegedly began fighting with store security officers and police over the weekend.
Macy’s security called police on Friday at about 3:15 p.m. when a girl was reportedly fighting with store security. The 15-year-old was screaming profanity and vulgar language at the top of her lungs, Lt. Nick Montagnese said.
Security had seen two girls take items into the fitting room and come out with fewer pieces. The missing items were later discovered to have been stuffed into an oversized, pink bag. When they attempted to walk out without paying for the items, the duo was stopped by security, at which point they became aggressive, combative and confrontational, Montagnese said.
The 15-year-old struck the security offer in the right arm and right side of face and pulled his shirt so hard it had a tear in it, Montagnese said. The girl then kicked the responding female officer multiple times in both knees and arms. As a result, she was charged with assault on a police officer, third-degree robbery, possession of burglar’s tools, larceny and carrying a dangerous weapon. As well as having mace in her purse, the girl also had a pair of wire cutters in her possession.
The other girl, a 16-year-old from Bridgeport, was charged with larceny.
On Sunday, police were called to Lord & Taylor on a report of a combative shoplifter. Store security said, while watching store security cameras, a middle-aged woman suspected of two earlier shoplifting incidents came into the store and was seen putting a pair of sunglasses into her purse and walking out.
When the woman was stopped, she allegedly bit the female security officer on her left hand, Montagnese said, and attempted to push past her in order to escape. The female security officer and a co-worker brought the woman back to the asset protection offices and called police.
Linda O’Connor, 53, of Commons Park South, Stamford, was charged with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and criminal trespass. The security officer refused medical treatment.
