Cuffed suspect shoots Pa. LEO, escapes
MCKEESPORT, Pa. Dec 23 2020— A 22-year-old man is wanted on attempted-homicide charges, a police officer is in the hospital, and a search is continuing for the suspect after the Sunday shooting in Allegheny County.
“Turn yourself in,” was the message McKeesport police Chief Adam Alfer had for Koby Lee Francis, WTAE is reporting.
Francis is accused of shooting a 32-year-old police officer after he was taken into custody on Sunday, WPXI is reporting.
The officer is in stable condition, reports indicate.
According to reports, the incident started when Francis came to the police station, was served with a protection-from-abuse order, then left.
About an hour later, police got a call from the person who had filed for the PFA, saying Francis was nearby, according to reports.
Police arrived at the scene and found a gun in Francis’ vehicle when they took him into custody, reports indicate.
They did not realize he had another gun on him, and reports indicate when they got to the police station, and when the officer opened the police-car door, Francis fired three shots, striking the officer once in the neck and twice in the shoulder, reports indicate.
Francis ran away, and video surveillance caught him fleeing while wearing handcuffs, according to reports. He had been handcuffed with his hands behind his back, but the video showed him cuffed with his arms in front.
The name of the injured police officer has not been released.
