Culpepper teen arrested for planning school attack on ‘the deserving’
Culpepper VA Aug 5 2018 A Culpeper teen who allegedly threatened to commit violent acts at school was taken into custody Friday.
A parent reported a social media conversation to school officials in which the 13-year-old boy confessed plans to “kill or do bodily harm” at his school, according to the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.
An investigation by Deputy Dana Martz-Dodson, resource officer at Floyd T. Binns Middle School, determined the threat to be credible and prompted the sheriff’s office to obtain a search warrant.
Deputies recovered a pellet rifle, bow and knife at the boy’s home, according to the sheriff.
Interviews with the boy revealed that he intended to take revenge on an individual he alleges bullied him during the last several years, as well as shoot “the deserving.” He then intended to end the violent acts by committing suicide, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Culpeper school personnel and school resource deputies have once again shown their tremendous bond and communication they have with the students and parents as they worked to prevent this potential tragedy,” said Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins. “I can’t thank the schools enough for their continued cooperation and teamwork in keeping our schools safe.”
The teen was arrested and transported to a hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
