Cumberland University Security Chief starts “Coffee With The Chief”
Lebanon TN Aug 8 2018
You’ve probably heard of “Coffee With a Cop”, where the community gets a chance to stop by a local restaurant and chat with local police and sheriff officers over a cup of Joe.
It’s an opportunity for the community to meet local law enforcement in a relaxing atmosphere and just talk about whatever they’d like to talk about. Some use it as a way to get to know the officers, other residents use it as a sounding board to let police know about problems in their community.
Well, now there’s an opportunity for students at Cumberland University in Lebanon Tennessee to do something similar and it’s called “Coffee With The Chief”.
Once a month, students will be able to stop by the university’s cafeteria in the morning and chat one on one with the Chief of Security, Mike Thornhill and the officers of the CU Security Department.
Students will also get to meet members of the FBI, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Lebanon Police Dept, and Mt. Juliet Police Dept. just to name a few.
Campus life is busy and we often pass each other on the campus. We wave, say hi and go about our business never really having a lot of time just to chit-chat Thornhill said.
Chief Thornhill said that his recent participation with the Mt. Juliet’s Police Department’s “Coffee with a Cop” showed the need for more personal interaction with the public and their Chief, James Hambrick has been very successful with that outreach in his community.
This inspired me and I wanted to give our students and staff on campus a similar opportunity to meet and talk with our officers.
Now each month, students and officers will be able to really get to know each other and if they do have any issues or problems on campus, we’ll be able to resolve that for them too, the chief said.
