Dallas security officer shot three times is in critical condition

An on-duty security officer working at a business in Dallas is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times by an assailant.
Dallas police is reporting that the officer in serious condition at an area hospital.
The armed security officer was shot three times as he sat in his vehicle Thursday night in Far East Dallas.
A man came up to him and fired into the car, hitting him at least three times, police said.
Police said that it appears that the security officer was ambushed and had no time to pull his weapon.
Police said that it occurred at about 10 p.m. while he was securing an area in the 11700 block of Ferguson Road, near Interstate 635, police said. Police stated that this is a high crime area of the city.
This address is listed as a strip mall with numerous types of businesses.
Police said they have a good description of the suspect and believe the two had previous confrontations. They are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.
The gunman, who reportedly was in his late teens or early 20s, fled toward the west on Ferguson.
It is unclear whether the gunman fled on foot or in a vehicle.
As of noon Friday, the security officer is listed with life-threatening injuries and in very critical condition.
