Danbury police mourn death of officer
DANBURY CT December 7 2021 — A Danbury police officer died unexpectedly Sunday, according to the department.
Andrew Katkocin was a 12-year member of the Danbury Police Department and “well-liked and respected by his peers and supervisors alike,” Lt. Mark Williams said on the department’s Facebook page.
“Our deepest sympathy is with Andrew’s family and loved ones.
His passing is a stunning blow to his brother and sister officers at the Danbury Police Department, who will miss him deeply,” said Williams. “As we are all in mourning, please keep
Williams did not discuss the circumstances of Katkocin’s death.
Katkocin is the second Danbury police officer to die in recent days.
Sgt. David Cooney, 45, died on Nov. 28 after “a long and courageous battle with cancer,” Williams said.
Cooney was a 20-year veteran of the department, a past president of the police union, and most recently served as “supervisor of the Crime Scene Unit, administrator for the department’s records management system, and liaison to several external agencies,” Williams said.
His father, Dennis Cooney, also worked for the department for 21 years, Williams said.
