Davidson County TN deputy killed by husband
Nashville TN December 21 2018
A Davidson County Sheriff’s Office employee was killed by her husband in an apparent homicide-suicide over the weekend, Metro Nashville police said. The couple were newlyweds.
According to police, a preliminary investigation showed that Kirk Williams, 49, shot Lawanda Steele-Williams, 53, in the kitchen of their home in the 700 block of Rocky Mountain Court before killing himself.
Steele-Williams was a six-year employee of the DCSO, the department confirmed.
“It is with extreme sadness the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office mourns the passing of Offender Re-Entry Center correctional officer Lawanda Steele. None of us are ever prepared for such an untimely death and our employees need your prayers and support. Our thoughts are with her family as they come to terms with this horrible news,” Sheriff Daron Hall said in an emailed statement.
South Precinct officers responded to the couple’s home just before 6 p.m. Sunday after Steele-Williams’ daughter, who reportedly last talked to her mom on Friday, went to check on her and found the door locked.
Police said Steele-Williams was not answering her cell phone, which the daughter could hear ringing inside.
Arriving officers found the couple dead on the kitchen floor with gunshot wounds to their heads.
According to detectives, a semi-automatic pistol was between the couple, who had been married for about 18 months.
According to public records, Steele-Williams was a cosmetologist who previously lived in Detroit where she graduated from Murray Wright High School and attended Wayne County Community College.
On Monday, Steele-Williams’ friends and family took to social media to express grief and condolences.
“Rest in peace,” Kori Johnson posted on her Facebook page. “She was so cool with a beautiful smile.”
“This is heartbreaking… you will be missed dearly and I will always remember your beautiful smile,” Sabrina Barber posted on Facebook. “Prayers to all the family and friends.”
