DC Special Police Officer Captures Escaped Prisoner
WASHINGTON DC May 4 2024 A man in handcuffs was caught on video running away from a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on Tuesday.
In a police report, MPD said that an officer was responding to a possible robbery at the Sala Thai Restaurant on C Street SE. The officer saw a man being detained by an employee and a customer.
The person who made the call told the officer that the man had entered the restaurant to use the restroom. When he left, he saw a key sticking out of the cash register. He opened it and took $20. MPD said that the man returned the money after he was detained.
Officers handcuffed the man, but he broke free and ran away and ran into a metro train station.
A Special Police Officer on duty at that location spotted the man and detained him again after he escaped into the Stadium-Armory Metro station.
The police report said that the man had an outstanding robbery warrant from the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested for theft and for escaping from custody.
