According to a press release from the Panama City Beach Police Department, the man was identified as PCB resident Timothy Dale Ackerman, 31, who allegedly jumped from the 23rd floor of the Sunrise Beach Resort.
Deputies responded about 6:45 p.m. on Sunday to find Ackerman lying dead in front of the building near Front Beach Road, the release added.
Things were back to normal just hours after a man jumped to his death from the 23rd floor of the Sunrise Beach Resort in Panama City Beach on Sunday, March 21. Authorities said the man was BASE jumping and that his parachute did not open.
“The Panama City Beach Police Department would like to remind everyone it is against the law to trespass and there is no legal place in Florida that allows BASE jumping,” the release states.
Panama City Beach police were at the scene where an apparent BASE jumper’s parachute failed to open Sunday night. The jumper was killed.
A witness cited in the incident report told deputies that he saw Ackerman falling “from about halfway” up the building as he drove by on a motorcycle that night. A hotel security guard also reported that she knew of two other witnesses, one of whom “supposedly” recorded “a video of the event.”
The report added that Ackerman’s vehicle had skydiving decals near its rear window.
