Decorated Utah Police Officer Dies of Medical Condition
Salt Lake City UT October 21 2021 A Utah police officer died from a medical condition while on duty last week.
No details were given concerning the medical issue that led to the death of University of Utah Police Sgt. Kory Newbold on Oct. 14, KTVX-TV reports.
He had been with the department since 2014.
In a social media post, the department in Salt Lake City said it was devastated by the death of Newbold, 59. The post also described the sergeant as a “beloved member of our team.”
“Our hearts and thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the department stated.
While with the University of Utah Police Department, Newbold received two medals of valor, according to his obituary.
He had become an officer with the West Valley City Police Department in 1986 and worked there until retiring as a lieutenant.
Newbold is survived by his father, his sister and three daughters.
