Deputies shoot and kill armed burglar at gun store
PALM DESERT, CA June 26 2020— A man suspected of burglarizing a Palm Desert gun store was shot and killed by deputies Monday night, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced.
The fatal shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the store located in the 41000 block of Boardwalk.
According to the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to a call about a burglary in process at the store, with suspects still inside. When they arrived, deputies found an unoccupied vehicle rammed into the store’s front entrance.
Deputies surrounded the business, and at some point an armed man exited the store’s front, which is when deputies fired, according to the sheriff’s department.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released pending notification of next of kin.
The deputies involved in the shooting are being placed on administrative leave per department policy, and an internal investigation will get underway.
“The involved deputies names will not be released at this time,” the sheriff’s department said.
