Deputy’s sudden death shakes Seneca, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
Jefferson County KY November 14 2018
A longtime school resource officer died Monday morning after having a medical emergency at Seneca High School.
Devin Meriwether, 43, was found after he didn’t respond to radio calls, said Lt. Col. Carl Yates with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy was rushed to the hospital, where he later died, Yates said.
Yates said the deputy had been a school resource officer for about seven years and had spent most of that time at Seneca High.
“He was well-known there, a popular guy and well-liked by the kids,” Yates said.
Yates added that the deputy was a military veteran and had contemplated taking the day off today but decided instead to go into work.
Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Renee Murphy referred questions to the sheriff’s office.
