Derry security company owner arrested for cocaine charges

48-year-old man who runs a security company has appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court charged with possessing more than 100 grams of cocaine.
Scott Reid (48) of Ivy Mead in Derry was charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine on dates between August 1 and October 26.
He was also charged with possessing cocaine with intent to supply on October 26, possessing the drugs on the same date, possessing criminal property, possessing diazepam, a stun gun and a CS spray on the same date.
A police officer connected Reid to the charges and opposed bail.
She said police attended an address and when they arrived they saw a package being thrown from an upstairs window into the garden of a property next door
In the package were three packages of cocaine totaling more than 100 grams, deal bags and scales.
Police found £5,000 in a safe in the property as well as ‘bundles of cash’ throughout the house.
Reid was also said to have £18,000 in a Credit Union account.
A stun gun and the spray were also found in other parts of the property as well as what police believed to be ‘a strap list’ of people who owed money.
The officer told the court Reid had a severe cocaine addiction and claimed to take as much as an ounce a day.
This, the court was told, amounted to some £1,750 a week.
The officer said that Reid’s company supplied door staff to venue across the North and she believed that drugs were supplied at these locations.
Bail was opposed on the grounds of the fear of interference with the investigation as two phones had been seized and needed to be investigated.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that his client had given the police his PIN number.
He said that Reid had ‘an horrendous habit’ and had been suffering the effects since his arrest.
The solicitor said he believed conditions could be put in place to ensure there were no further offences.
District Judge Barney McElholm said he would adjourn the case until Wednesday to give police time to complete their inquiries into internet material.
