Disturbance at Wind Creek casino ends with arrest
Bethlehem PA Aug 18 2019
A man being kicked out of a concert Tuesday night at Wind Creek Event Center punched a Bethlehem police officer in the face before he could be arrested, the department said.
Eric Shehu, of Waterbury, Connecticut, was sent to Northampton County Prison, after being arraigned Wednesday morning on charges including aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.
The 32-year-old’s bail was set at $100,000.
City police released a photo of the man and asked for the public’s help in identifying him.
Bethlehem police were called about 10:16 p.m. for a fight involving a police officer at the event center, where Papa Roach was playing.
Shehu was being escorted out of the center by casino security and was being met by Bethlehem police officer Matthew Steidel to be arrested for public drunkenness, police said.
Shehu “immediately” punched Steidel in the face, then grabbed the officer’s radio, pulled on his ballistic vest and grabbed for things on his duty belt, according to police.
Shehu allegedly continued to scuffle with officers and was arrested after being hit with a stun gun, police said.
Steidel was treated at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill.
