Dorney Park sued for racial profiling by security
Allentown PA June 29 2018 A Philadelphia man has filed a civil rights lawsuit against Dorney Park claiming he was racially profiled by security.
The suit filed by Benjamin Slater says back on June 17 he was detained by park security for having the same skin color as an unknown black man who was reportedly seen going through women’s purses and handbags and stealing items.
The suit says an armed security officer approached Slater and asked him to empty his pockets, which contained only his cell phone, his wallet and his keys.
The lawsuit says Slater was then taken to the park security office and met by South Whitehall Police.
The suit says even though it was determined Slater was not the suspect, he was escorted out of the park. The lawsuit claims the incident left Slater “extremely” embarrassed and humiliated.
Dorney Park released a statement in regards to the matter:
Dorney Park security responded to a guest complaint concerning Mr. Slater and were joined by local law enforcement in the investigation. While we regret that Mr. Slater’s experience at the park was not as he expected, we believe that the case is without merit.
