MEMPHIS, TN Aug 11 2018

A Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on disorderly conduct and public intoxication charges, according to court documents.

Michael Bryant, 27, was at The Peabody Hotel on Thursday, Aug. 9 with his girlfriend when a security officer said he noticed him becoming verbally aggressive towards her.

The security officer said he became concerned when Bryant started yelling at his girlfriend and making a scene.

The affidavit says when the security officer tried to intervene and told Bryant to stop, Bryant said, “What the f— do you want?”

The security officer said Bryant continued to mouth off. After a while, the girlfriend told the security officer that her boyfriend was an officer with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The security officer told Bryant that he should know better than to act like that. However, the police report says Bryant told the officer to “Call the whole f—ing squad.”

A Memphis police officer arrived on the scene and spoke with Bryant and his girlfriend.

The officer said Bryant was very intoxicated and mouthed off to the police officer. Bryant was then handcuffed, and the officer tried to put him in the back of the police car, however, Bryant refused.

The police officer told Bryant several times to get into the squad car before he finally had to force him into the back, court documents say.

At that point, the officer called for backup. Once backup officers and an SCSO sergeant arrived, the officer removed Bryant from the back of the police car.

The police report states Bryant then started yelling, cursing, and pulling away from the officer, causing a scene with several people stopping to watch.

The officials told Bryant several times to stop; however, they said he refused and continued to make a scene.

Bryant was transported to the Shelby County Criminal Justice Center. He is currently on paid leave.
