Elderly man in motorized cart killed by armored vehicle in grocery store parking lot

Metro Las Vegas police are investigating the fatal accident that killed an elderly man in a motorized shopping cart.
Police said that the man was killed by an armored vehicle at a WinCo Foods parking lot in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
The man, who was 87 years old, exited the grocery store near Decatur Boulevard and Tropical Parkway shortly before 2 p.m.
He moved in front of the armored truck as it began to pull forward, authorities say. The front of the truck hit the cart and knocked both the man and the cart over.
The armored truck then continued to drive forward and did not stop.
Police say bystanders tried to get the driver’s attention and helped to stop the vehicle.
The man in the cart was transported to UMC Trauma where he died.
The driver of the armored truck stayed at the scene and displayed no signs of impairment, according to authorities.
Metro accident investigators have not said if there will be any criminal charges.
This crash marks the 101st traffic related death in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department jurisdiction for 2019.
