WHEELING WV Aug 26 2019 An elderly man shot and killed himself Wednesday afternoon in an examination room at Wheeling Hospital’s emergency-trauma center.

“An 82-year-old man did die from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an exam room inside the emergency room according to police.

 No other patients were harmed,” a hospital spokesperson said Thursday.

Philip Stahl, public information officer for the Wheeling Police Department, said the man had been transported to the hospital by ambulance from outside the city of Wheeling.

Stahl said that it “appears he had concealed a small handgun on him and then took his own life. No one else was injured.”

According to Wheeling police reports, police received a call at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday regarding a “suicide by firearm.”

Police declined to release the man’s identity.
