Employee steals $2,600 worth of merchandise from WI Target Distribution Center
Milwaukee WI November 9 2018
A 33-year-old Milwaukee woman has been charged with theft after her employer said she was caught stealing $2,649.97 worth of merchandise at the Target Distribution Center, 1100 Valley Road, Oconomowoc.
Carlotta Evelyn-Renee Brown was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Oct. 16.
Police were dispatched to the distribution center after they were called Oct. 15 by security specialists at the center to investigate a theft.
Police were told that the distribution center had conducted its own internal investigation of stolen merchandise from Oct. 2-7. The investigation began when a Target store contacted the distribution center saying that it was missing an item.
After looking at surveillance cameras, security personnel noticed that one of the videos showed Brown stealing from the trailer truck she was loading on two different occasions.
Brown admitted to security that she took an iPod Touch on Oct. 2, two Apple iPhone X’s on Oct. 7 and two Apple Air Buds wireless headphones, according to police. Brown said she took the headphones before Oct. 2, but she was unsure of the exact date. Although she admitted to taking the headphones, there was no video footage on the surveillance cameras showing that theft, said the report.
During her interview with police, Brown said she was deeply sorry for actions. She also stated that she needed the money because of some family issues, and her goal was to sell the items to make some quick cash, the police report said.
Although her intention was to sell the items, she said she didn’t because she felt bad for stealing from her place of employment, so all of the items were still at her Milwaukee home.
Brown’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 29.
