Ex-Security Guard Heists DJ Equipment, Hookahs From Bar
OAK FOREST, IL October 17 2019— An ex-security guard is accused of burglarizing a bar slated for closure. David Huey, 49, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony burglary charge. The prosecutor told the judge that Huey also has two out-of-state warrants, prosecutors said.
According to the complaint, Huey was the former head of security for the Rockin’ Horse Saloon and Grill, which is slated for closure in Oak Forest. Around 9 a.m. July 21, the prosecutor said Huey let himself into the bar with a set of keys. Once inside, Huey allegedly shut off the circuit breakers so the security cameras wouldn’t work.
The prosecutor said Huey carried a crowbar and tried to pry open the bar’s gaming machines. Huey allegedly left the bar with DJ equipment and hookahs.
Huey’s attorney told the judge that his client is head of his own security firm. Huey is still employed by the Rockin’ Horse owner, but at another club. The attorney said Huey’s boss was in the courtroom, and reminded the judge that Huey turned himself into Oak Forest police.
“He had keys,” Huey’s attorney said. “He had 24/7 access.”
“What about the crowbar,” Mahoney said.
“This is the first I’ve heard about a crowbar,” the attorney said.
Huey has an outstanding warrant for obstructing justice out of Lake County, IN, and another in Wisconsin for failure to pay child support, the prosecutor said.
The judge set bail on the new case at $50,000. He ordered Huey to be on electronic home monitoring should he bond out. Huey’s next court hearing is Oct. 22. He’s to appear in court Oct. 15 for the warrants.
