FBI charges Alaska man in connection to bomb threats at Lafayette College
EASTON, Pa. December 18 2018 – Federal authorities have charged an Alaska man for making a bomb threat to Lafayette College’s campus. The college president sent a letter to the Lafayette Community Saturday afternoon informing them of the investigation.
It said federal authorities charged a man in Anchorage for email and social media threats to the campus back in May.
Officials said the suspect claimed to be a student who had pledged allegiance to ISIS and planted bombs on the Easton campus.
The threats put the campus on lockdown on May 5 as officials performed a search, but the threats were deemed not credible.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI plan to share more details about the investigation during a news conference at the college at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The email from college president, Alison Byerly said, “While we are relieved an arrest has been made, we will continue to make emergency planning a high priority, as nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our students.”
“As a result of the May incident, we have taken steps to ensure that the campus community is well informed about our safety procedures and communications protocols, as outlined in this email sent in August by Vice President for Campus Life Annette Diorio and Director of Public Safety Jeff Troxell,” the letter said.
