Fired River Hills Mall security officer convicted in credit card fraud
Mankato, MN May 21 2017– A former security guard at the River Hills Mall in Mankato has been sentenced for using a credit card that was lost by a woman shopping there.
Forty-six-year-old Ernesto Arizmendi of St. James was given two years probation and ordered to pay about $300 in fees and a fine for credit card fraud.
According to the complaint, a woman shopping at the River Hills Mall on October 23rd, 2016, misplaced her credit card and it was turned into the “lost and found.”
But when she called the mall a few days later, the card was no longer in the “lost and found” and her bank notified her that there had been charges made.
The complaint said Arizmendi took the card while working his overnight security shift at the mall and then proceeded to rack up nearly $600 in charges at places like Kwik Trip, Walmart and Advance Auto Parts.
According to police, among the evidence was surveillance footage from the stores where the card was used with Arizmendi there in his mall security jacket and the River Hills Mall Security vehicle outside.
Arizmendi was fired.
