Fitchburg man charged in hospital assault
LEOMINSTER MA March 26 2019 — A Fitchburg man was arrested Thursday evening after becoming out-of-control while a patient at a local hospital, police said Friday.
Officers were called to UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital Leominster campus to address the conduct of Adam D. Cairns, 50, of 25 Boylston St., who was a patient in the hospital’s emergency department, said police Lt. Michael Ciccolini.
When officers approached Cairns, said Ciccolini, he started yelling, including profanities, clenching his fist as if he wanted to fight and threatening to injure officers and hospital security officers.
Cairns, who Ciccolini said was highly intoxicated, also actively resisted his arrest for disorderly conduct.
As a result of the altercation, Cairns was charged with assault, assault on ambulance personnel, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Bail arrangements were unavailable.
