Five arrested for disturbance at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Vallejo CA Aug 28 2018
One police officer was injured and five people have been arrested in a brawl at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo turned into a near riot.
Police say that it started with several people fighting but soon turned into chaos when other people, not involved in the original dispute inserted themselves into the fight.
The incident started when park security confronted unruly patrons Saturday night Vallejo police Lt. Herman Robinson said.
The incident began when a patron began using foul language toward the ride operator of the Medusa roller coaster. Park security responded and began escorting the patron and a group that was with the person from the park.
At some point, a person, later identified as Dytanya Benton, 21, of Oakland, pushed the park’s security manager. Whereupon, two Vallejo police officers, working as a security detail in the park, were requested to the scene, Robinson explained.
As the officers attempted to detain Benton, he began resisting and was ultimately taken to the ground.
The group with Benton then began to push at the officers and park security, with some of the group attempting to prevent Benton’s arrest by pulling him away from the officers, Robinson said.
The officers working the detail at the park requested immediate assistance and back-up and more law enforcement were sent to the park.
Vallejo police Lt. Michael Nichelini said five people were arrested on charges ranging from interfering with an officer in the line of duty, to participating in a riot.
Benton has been charged with resisting arrest, use of foul language in a public place, and for lynching — which means attempting to remove a person from police custody during a riot.
Others arrested included:
- Zaron Adams, 18, of Fresno, Emontay Moultrie, 18, of Fresno, Erica Roberson, 20, of San Pablo have all been charged with lynching, obstruction, and use of foul language in a public place.
- Iesha Taylor, 26, of Suisun City, was charged with resisting/obstructing a police officer.
Robinson said the officer who wrestled with Benton suffered minor scrapes to his hand and forearm. It is unknown if any park security officers were injured.
