Five women charged with stealing from Naperville Old Navy
Naperville IL December 28 2019 Five women have been charged with stealing about $3,100 worth of merchandise from a Naperville Old Navy, authorities said.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on December 23, witnesses said they saw the five women running from the Old Navy store on South Route 59, officials with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office said Tuesday in a Facebook post. The women are accused of bringing shopping bags with them and altering the bags in an attempt to defeat the store’s security system, the state’s attorney’s office said.
The women allegedly left the store in a car and drove to a location in West Chicago, where they were approached by a West Chicago police officer, according to the state’s attorney’s office. Officials alleged that in the car were bags of clothing, party items and house decor.
Charged were Kionna Williams, 30, of West Chicago; Desire Jackson, 20, of Chicago; Savanna Grant, 20 of Chicago; Kaprice Johns, 27, of Evergreen Park; and Jasmine Brown, 26, of Chicago.
Each of the women faces one count of burglary, a class 2 felony, and one count of retail theft, a class 3 felony. Johns and Williams also face one count of retail theft, a class 4 felony, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
“With just days left in the holiday shopping season, it is alleged that these defendants went into the Old Navy store intent on stealing whatever they could get their hands on,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “Their alleged behavior is completely unacceptable, and perhaps today’s charges will serve as a reminder to any would be offenders why the holiday season is often referred to as the shopping season and not the shoplifting season.”
Bond was set at $30,000 Tuesday for each of the women, state’s attorney’s office officials said.
