Florida grocery store employee hid razor blade in peach
LYNN HAVEN FL Aug 28 2017 — An employee has been arrested after police say a coworker noticed a razor blade in a piece of produce at Lynn Haven’s Grocery Outlet.
The Lynn Haven Police Department reported an employee found the blade in a peach on a sales floor display Friday morning at the store at 902 Ohio Ave.
“The produce manager found it when she was doing her pre-opening inspection of the department, when we go through and look for merchandise that needs to be pulled,” store manager Jack Montford said Saturday.
“We immediately contacted the authorities, got on the security footage and found him.”
Store security footage showed Steven Allen Garnett, 21, placing the blade, according to an LHPD report.
Police said when confronted, Garnett admitted placing the blade. He was arrested and booked in to the Bay County Jail on a charge of tampering with a consumer product, a first-degree felony.
Montford said store management is confident no other products were tampered with.
“We determined it was an isolated incident, and we have checked all of our produce and all of our perishable items, and we’ve found them to be safe,” he said. “We haven’t found any other issues, and we don’t think he had been doing this before.”
Police also said the incident appeared to be resolved.
“Based upon our investigation at this time, we believe it is an isolated incident,” an LHPD spokesman said Saturday.
