Florida International University’s deputy police chief arrested in scuffle with police, bar security
CORAL GABLES, FLA. November 18 2018 The Florida International University’s deputy police chief woke up in jail after a rough night in Coral Gables.
Sixty-one-year-old Benjamin Guerrero is facing three counts of battery on law enforcement and one count of disorderly conduct.
According to Coral Gables Police, Guerrero was acting disorderly and was asked to leave the business by security.
Several off-duty police officers working security at Hillstone, a popular bar and grill on Miracle Mile also tried to escort Guerrero out of the bar when he began to resist and curse at officers.
However, investigators said, Guerrero refused.
At this point bar security, off-duty police officers became engaged in a scuffle as officers tried to take Guerrero into custody.
FIU Police Chief Alexander D. Casas issued a statement that reads, “We are saddened to hear of the arrest of one of our officers last night. FIUPD holds all our officers to the highest standards of behavior. We are taking appropriate administrative action regarding this incident.”
