Florida security guard charged with armed robbery and kidnapping
TAVERNIER FL April 5 2018— One of two men accused of robbing the former Dairy Queen at gunpoint on the night of Aug. 23 has been arrested, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Raheim Whitney, 21, of Homestead, was charged with robbery with a firearm, kidnapping and burglary while armed. Whitney’s occupation is listed as a security guard in Islamorada.
Four employees were working at the business at 92661 Overseas Highway about 10:30 p.m. when the robbery occurred, reports say. The employees said two armed men entered and forced them to lie on the floor. They then took one employee into the office where they removed cash from a safe, reports say. The two suspects took all the employee’s cellphones with them when they left.
The robbers were dressed in black and had black shirts wrapped around their faces. Each had a handgun which they used to threaten the victims, reports say.
Whitney was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center on Stock Island with a bail of $270,000.
