Florida’s Supreme Court police reach milestone
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. July 8 2017 Florida’s Supreme Court police has obtained a milestone for any law enforcement agency.
The Supreme Court Marshals Office just received accreditation from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation.
The commission’s report says it becomes the first court-only law enforcement agency in Florida and the country to get it.
The officers assigned here are not security guards said a spokesperson. They are fully sworn law enforcement officers.
These officers are tasked with protecting justices and handling large and passionate crowds that often come with high profile cases.
“Our officers will employ professional policies and procedures to make sure that the crowd is able to enjoy and participate in the court proceedings as well as protect them,” Marshal Silvester Dawson said.
Dawson says accreditation essentially means its policies, procedures and performance meet law enforcement’s highest standards.
Currently, Dawson said that he has 22 marshals on his force.
