Former cop gets 12 years for molesting teens in security office at Texas school
Springtown TX October 29 2018
A former police officer was sentenced to 12 years in prison for molesting teenage girls at the Springtown school where he provided security.
Franklin Thomas Carroll, 41, was convicted Thursday of indecency with a child by sexual contact, Parker County court records show. Jurors needed just 20 minutes of deliberation to sentence him.
Carroll was working as a school resource officer at Springtown High School when he committed the crimes, the Weatherford Democrat reports.
The victim said Carroll befriended her during her freshman year and later began pulling her out of class to spend time alone together in his office.
Over several weeks, the girl testified, he went from hugging her to kissing and groping her at the school. Two other girls testified that Carroll did the same to them, even demanding that one of them send naked pictures to him.
A prosecutor said a key piece of evidence in the case was an explicit letter that one of the victims wrote to Carroll and he kept in his desk drawer at the school.
“Most reasonable folks working at a school, let alone a police officer, would freak out, take such a letter to someone in administration, and ask what to do,” Assistant District Attorney Abby Placke told the Democrat. “They wouldn’t hide and keep it.”
Carroll resigned from the Springtown Police Department in 2015 after a co-worker accused him of sexually harassment, the Democrat reported.
