Former Houston security guard found guilty in 2019 murder
Houston Texas December 14, 2022
A Harris County jury has found Lance Campbell, a former security guard, guilty of murder in the 2019 fatal shooting of Michael Haynie while he was working as security.
Campbell encountered Haynie at a shopping center where he was working and told him to leave the property.
A short time later, Campbell again saw the homeless man with a shopping cart full of items and without provocation he tipped it over and began yelling at the man.
He soon pulled his firearm and shot and killed Haynie though he had not been assaulted and had no reason to use his firearm.
Campbell showed no apparent reaction when the verdict was read in the 174th Circuit Court. He gave his younger brother a handful of his belongings and started writing a note. The punishment phase came quickly with statements from Campbell’s brother and ex-wife defending his character.
