Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour forgot he had a gun while going through airport security
Jackson MS Feb 1 2018 Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour carried a loaded handgun as he went through airport security earlier this month, and as a result, will pay a fine.
Barbour said he was arrested on Jan. 2 as he tried to head to Washington, D.C., and that he forgot the gun – a .38-caliber revolver loaded with five bullets – was in his briefcase.
“This was absentmindedness and nobody’s fault but mine,” Barbour said about forgetting the gun was in his bag, according to the Associated Press.
The TSA website says that the minimum fine for having a loaded firearm at an airport security checkpoint is $3,920.
The gun was removed, and Barbour was permitted to board his flight.
“Next time, I’ll be more observant about getting stuff out of my briefcase,” he said.
