Former Spencerport school security guard, Greece PD recruit pleads guilty to child porn
Rochester, N.Y. April 14 2023 A former Spencerport school security guard and Greece police recruit has pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography.
Raids last summer led to the arrest of Jason Lane, 27, who prosecutors said uploaded approximately 260 files of possible child pornography to a Yahoo email account.
The material allegedly included a photo of a partially nude preschool-age child from a Penfield daycare, along with sexually explicit images of two minors that appeared to have been taken by Lane.
After Yahoo sent a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children last summer, New York State Police traced the files to Lane’s IP address and executed a search warrant at Lane’s apartment in Brighton, seizing a cell phone.
Police also searched Lane’s mother’s home in Greece, along with Lane’s Yahoo account, finding additional images of child pornography, images Lane obtained online, and images of students at Spencerport High School that “appear to have been taken surreptitiously” while Lane worked there.
Lane worked for security firm Swoop 1 and was assigned to Spencerport schools from November 2021-August 2022. Superintendent Kristin Swann previously said that while pictures of Spencerport students were found on Lane’s computer, they were not explicit.
Prior to working in Spencerport, Lane had been terminated at the end of his probationary period with the Greece Police Department.
Lane will be sentenced July 11. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
