Former store security officer charged with robbing the store
Myrtle Beach SC December 7 2018
A man who previously worked as a security guard at a clothing store in Myrtle Beach is charged with robbing the establishment Wednesday night, according to a news release.
Officers with the MBPD are investigating a reported strong armed robbery purportedly committed by the former employee at Ross Dress for Less located at 1134 Seaboard St.
Napoleon Donzell Johnson Jr. is charged with strong armed robbery.
Police responded to the store around 11 p.m., according to the release. “Officers determined that a masked man entered the store through an unlocked door and attempted to steal the cash box and money bags from a manager,” the release said.
Following a struggle, the man fled with a bag of money in a red Chevrolet Equinox.
Officers with the Myrtle Beach and Horry County police departments found the vehicle a short time later and the man was arrested at his home within three hours of the robbery.
According to a police report, $200 in cash was stolen.
A victim said she was taking money from each register at the store to the back to put it in a safe when a man ran in with a mask on and attempted to take the money out of her hands, the report said.
The loss prevention officer at the store was able to help the victim and pull the man off the victim, police said.
The suspect was “only able to get away with one green money bag from the victim,” the reporting officer noted.
