Four arrested after two Huntington police officers receive treatment for drug exposure
HUNTINGTON, WV July 24 2017 Two Huntington police officers had to be given Narcan after coming in contact with a potent drug last week.
Huntington Police Chief Joe Ciccarelli said one of his officers was called to Cabell Huntington Hospital for an overdose.
There, he removed what was thought to be heroin from the patient and took it back to the police station.
Once he got back, he was handling the drug material with gloves but started to feel the effects of the substance.
Another officer who was in that room also started to feel negative effects.
Nearby police officers quickly got Narcan and helped them administer it. The officers who were exposed were then taken to the hospital.
“We’re going to add additional measures, face masks, glasses, suits,” Ciccarelli said.
Huntington police arrested four people involved with that substance. One man who overdosed in the hospital, two others who brought the substance to the hospital and the dealer officers said they bought the drugs from, who is from Akron, Ohio.
All four face drug charges. Police have sent the substance off for further testing.
