Frustrated Gold Coast residents fork out thousands for security guard to patrol streets

A group of Gold Coast locals who have had enough with crime in their community are forking out thousands of dollars for a private security guard to patrol the streets.
Residents in Benowa Waters and Sorrento have hired Wayne Heneker and his doberman, ‘Boss’, after an alleged spate of burglaries and car thefts in the suburbs.
They hope Mr Heneker’s presence will make criminals think twice about targeting the areas he has been tasked to protect.
Heneker has made headlines before, having shot an armed robber dead during a botched 2014 robbery at the Highland Park Tavern in Nerang.
He told the Courier Mail newspaper that while it’s common for individual households to employ security guards to keep watch over their high-end homes, it was a ‘new thing’ for a whole community to unite to protect their entire suburb.
“We know we’re not a police service and don’t have police powers but we do act as a deterrent to keep offenders and wannabe gangsters out of the area,” he said.
